Prof. Soumyendu Shankar Ray is a prominent Indian architect and educator, known for his innovative design philosophy and commitment to context-sensitive architecture. His work stands out for its bold reinterpretation of traditional aesthetics through contemporary idioms, creating striking spatial experiences that juxtapose the conventional with the avant-garde. His designs seamlessly integrate disciplined geometries with adventurous material expressions, offering a unique blend of modernity and tradition.
A graduate of Sir J.J. College of Architecture, Mumbai, and a postgraduate from IIT Roorkee, Prof. Ray founded Vastukar in 1985. Today, it is one of the most esteemed architectural firms in the region, specializing in architecture, planning, and urban design. His book Odisha: An Architectural Odyssey, co-authored with a timeline perspective of Odisha's architectural heritage, reflects his deep research and dedication to preserving cultural legacy.
Prof. Ray’s academic leadership spans several prestigious roles, including Head of the Faculty of Architecture at Biju Patnaik University of Technology and his current position as the founding Director of the School of Architecture and Planning, KIIT University. He has contributed significantly to architectural education, developing interdisciplinary programs and advocating for sustainable and contextually relevant designs.
His professional assignments include advisory roles for cultural and heritage projects, including the Shreemandir (Shri Jagannath Temple) Cultural Advisory Committee. A sought-after voice in design circles, he has been an editorial advisor, board member, and recipient of numerous awards, such as the Neptune Glitz Design Honour and the Architect of the Year award by the Indian Institute of Architects, Odisha Chapter.
With a career spanning nearly four decades, Prof. Ray’s contributions to architecture, urban planning, and education continue to inspire future generations, shaping both built environments and the architects who design them.

In a stupendous achievement, Mr. Divyam Jha, a student of KIIT School of Film & Media Sciences has won Honourable Mention for his film “RESOLUTION” at the 2022 Student World Impact Film Festival. This is a remarkable achievement considering there were more than 5000 entries from 100 participating countries.
